This NOD consomic strain, commonly referred to as NOD.Zc17 carries Chromosome 17 alleles, <i>D17Mit164</i> (38Mb) through <i>D17Mit73</i> (79Mb) derived from NZM2328. Diabetes incidence in this diabetes/lupus resistant strain is reported to be 0 in both females and males compared to 70% in female and 40% in male NOD/Bdc control mice. This strain will be useful to identify candidate genes associated with diabetes resistance and to identify genes with common roots in multiple autoimmune diseases.
