Description

These mice express enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) under the control of the olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily A member 1B promoter, Or8a1b (formerly Olfr160 or M72). Glomeruli associated with this marker are located primarily on the dorsal surface of the olfactory bulb. Sporadic fluorescence is observed throughout this zone. This strain may be useful in studies of neuronal connectivity and axonal development.

Detailed description

These mice express enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) under the control of the olfactory receptor family 8 subfamily A member 1B (Or8a1b) promoter. Glomeruli associated with this marker are located primarily on the dorsal surface of the olfactory bulb. Sporadic fluorescence is observed throughout this zone. This strain may be useful in studies of neuronal connectivity and axonal development.

Development

The Or8a1b^tm6Mom mutation was generated in 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cells and the loxP-flanked neomycin resistance sequence was excised by breeding with a mouse carrying an EIIa-cre transgene (Lasko et al., 1996, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, v93 p5860), a transgene generated in FVB/N but having been backcrossed to C57BL/6 before this cross and having unknown pedigree prior to that. The Or8a1b^tm6Mom mutation was backcrossed onto C57BL/6J for more than 10 generations before this strain was sent from Dr. Mombaerts to The Jackson Laboratory, where it was cryopreserved.
