A 9.4 kb Sac1-Nhe1 fragment containing Olfr16 was subcloned from a 129/Sv-derived P1 phage into pBluescript, the second intron was excised, and an IRES-taulacZ sequence was inserted just downstream of the coding sequence. This resulted in a 4.9 kb construct that was microinjected into (C57BL/6J x CBA)F2 zygotes and integration by random insertion occurred. Several lines were generated, and line 5, Tg(Olfr16*,taulacZ)5Mom, has a copy number of 15 to 20. This transgene has been maintained on a mixed B6;CBA background by sibling inbreeding.
Expressed Gene | lacZ, beta-galactosidase, E. coli |
---|---|
Site of Expression | lacZ is expressed in olfactory sensory neurons on the turbinate epithelium. |
Allele Name | transgene insertion 5, Peter Mombaerts |
---|---|
Allele Type | Transgenic (Inserted expressed sequence) |
Allele Synonym(s) | MOR23-TgDelta-IRES-tauLacZ (line TgDelta-5); MOR23-Tgdelta-IRES-taulacZ line Tg5'delta; transgene insertion d2b, Peter Mombearts |
Gene Symbol and Name | Tg(Olfr16*,taulacZ)5Mom, transgene insertion 5, Peter Mombaerts |
Gene Synonym(s) | |
Promoter | Olfr16, olfactory receptor 16, mouse, laboratory |
Expressed Gene | lacZ, beta-galactosidase, E. coli |
Site of Expression | lacZ is expressed in olfactory sensory neurons on the turbinate epithelium. |
Strain of Origin | Not Applicable |
Chromosome | UN |
Molecular Note | This transgene resulted from pronuclear injection of a construct comprised of an IRES-taulacZ cassette downstream of a truncated Olfr16 sequence, with the three Olfr16 exons present but both intron 1 and intron 2 absent and 395 base pairs 5Õ of the translation start site deleted. The loss of these 395 base pairs stops expression. |

Terms are granted by individual review and stated on the customer invoice(s) and account statement. These transactions are payable in U.S. currency within the granted terms. Payment for services, products, shipping containers, and shipping costs that are rendered are expected within the payment terms indicated on the invoice or stated by contract. Invoices and account balances in arrears of stated terms may result in The Jackson Laboratory pursuing collection activities including but not limited to outside agencies and court filings.
The Jackson Laboratory has rigorous genetic quality control and mutant gene genotyping programs to ensure the genetic background of JAX® Mice strains as well as the genotypes of strains with identified molecular mutations. JAX® Mice strains are only made available to researchers after meeting our standards. However, the phenotype of each strain may not be fully characterized and/or captured in the strain data sheets. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a strain's phenotype will meet all expectations. To ensure that JAX® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for your particular project. We do not guarantee breeding performance and therefore suggest that investigators order more than one breeding pair to avoid delays in their research.
