Description

These GFP reporter mice are useful in studies to identify olfactory sensory neuronal development and topography in glomeruli in the olfactory bulb.

Detailed description

The coding region of GFP was fused to the C-terminus of the olfactory receptor Or8a1 (formerly Olfr151). Olfactory sensory neurons that express the mutated locus can be revealed by the intrinsic fluorescence of GFP, or by immunofluorescence with anti-GFP antibodies.

Development

The Or8a1^tm22Mom mutation (formerly Olfr151^tm22Mom) was generated in 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cells and resulting mice were bred to C57BL/6J before being intercrossed to homozygosity. This mutation was generated using the ACNf neo cassette, which self-excises during transmission in the male chimera. In 2007 sperm was cryopreserved from homozygous males on this mixed B6;129P2 background.

The plasmid that was used to generate this mutation is banked and described at Addgene.
