The Olfr16tm1Mom targeted mutation was generated in 129P2/OlaHsd derived E14 ES cells, and the founder was bred to C57BL/6J. The loxP flanked neomycin resistance cassette was excised by breeding with a mouse carrying an EIIa-cre transgene (Lakso et al. 1996, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, v93 p5860), a transgene generated in FVB/N but having been backcrossed at least four generations to C57BL/6 before this cross and having unknown pedigree prior to that. The resulting mice, lacking the neomycin resistance cassette, were intercrossed and homozygotes were selected that were devoid of the EIIa-cre transgene. In 2007 sperm were cryopreserved from homozygous males.

Molecular Note | An IRES-taulacZ cassette was inserted downstream of the endogenous coding sequence to allow for coexpression of the gene and the marker. Southern blot confirmed recombination. Crossing with EIIa-Cre mice excised a floxed neo at the 3' end of the inserted cassette. |

JAX® Mice strains are only made available to researchers after meeting our standards. However, the phenotype of each strain may not be fully characterized and/or captured in the strain data sheets. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a strain's phenotype will meet all expectations. To ensure that JAX® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for your particular project. We do not guarantee breeding performance and therefore suggest that investigators order more than one breeding pair to avoid delays in their research.
