Detailed description

Mice carrying the dominant mutation dispersed white hair on this predominantly C57BL/6J background have white hairs dispersed throughout the normally black coat along with patches of white hairs on the back or belly.

Development

Dwh arose spontaneously at The Jackson Laboratory in 2005 in the strain B6C3Fe a/a-Large/J (stock#000226) and has been maintained by backcrossing to C57BL/6J. In 2007 this strain reached generation N6. Although unlikely, the unlinked, recessive Large^myd mutation may still be segregating in this mutant sub-strain.
