Detailed description

This is one of a series of lines of interval-directed recombinant congenic strains (RCS) with NON/Lt as the background strain. The lines were created by combining variable numbers of known quantitative trait loci (QTL) for obesity and diabetes contributed by New Zealand Obese (NZO/HlLt) and Nonobese Nondiabetic (NON/Lt) strains. Because these lines reflect different collections of obesity and diabetes syndromes QTL, they are extremely relevant as models for the polygenic obesity/ diabesity syndromes in humans.

Development

This line was created by interval-specific selection of diabetes sub-phenotypes as inbreeding progressed after backcrosses to NON/Lt of reciprocal (NON/Lt x NZO/HlLt)F1 or (NZO/HlLt x NON/Lt)F1 matings.
