Detailed description

The recessive wellhaarig (we) mutations in mice generate curly vibrissae and an initial hair-coat with a striking wavy texture. They have been shown to be the result of defects of the Tgm3 gene.

Development

The Wellhaarig 4 Jackson mutation arose spontaneously in 1998 in the AKR/J inbred strain at The Jackson Laboratory, when that inbred was at generation F200, and was maintained on this background by sibling inbreeding heterozygotes and homozygotes. In 2005, when the mutant subline was at generation +F7 embryos were generated for cryopreservation from homozygous males and either heterozygous or homozygous females.
