The H chain of the human class I MHC Ag HLA-B27 was introduced into the germ lines of inbred C57BL/6 (B6) mice by micro-injection resulting in physiologic cell surface expression of the HLAA B27 gene product. Function of the B27 Ag as the stimulator of both primary and secondary allogeneic cytolytic T cell responses demonstrated that the human transgene product functions as a normal class I MHC molecule in the mouse. These transgenic mice may be useful in studies of HLA-B27 in inflammatory human disease.




These B27mice contain a transgene expressing the human HLA-B27 gene on lymphoid cells at levels comparable to endogenous H-2b and H-2s class I MHC molecules.
