These congenic mice carry a chromosomal segment from Chromosome 11 bounded by the colony stimulating factor 2 (Csf2) and an Mit marker and includes the insulin dependent diabetes susceptibility locus 4 (Idd4).

This strain is congenic for a 42 cM segment of Chr 11 extending from Csf2 (colony stimulating factor 2, granulocyte-macrophage) through D11Mit42 that includes the insulin dependent diabetes susceptibility locus Idd4.The name given this segment in the primary reference is c11. Upon histological examination of the pancreas, the incidence and severity of periinsulitis (perivascular, periductal and/or periislet infiltration by mononuclear cells) in B6.NOD-(Csf2-D11Mit42) mice were found to be similar to those in C57BL/6 controls.
Genomic segments found in earlier linkage studies to include diabetogenic loci were transferred in the laboratory of E.K. Wakeland from NOD/Uf to C57BL/6 by six successive backcrosses (to N7). Sibs of each lineage were then intercrossed to generate mice homozygous for each segment. Microsatellite analysis was used to type mice for loci in the regions of interest.

The Jackson Laboratory has rigorous genetic quality control and mutant gene genotyping programs to ensure the genetic background of JAX® Mice strains as well as the genotypes of strains with identified molecular mutations. JAX® Mice strains are only made available to researchers after meeting our standards. However, the phenotype of each strain may not be fully characterized and/or captured in the strain data sheets. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a strain's phenotype will meet all expectations. To ensure that JAX® Mice will meet the needs of individual research projects or when requesting a strain that is new to your research, we suggest ordering and performing tests on a small number of mice to determine suitability for your particular project. We do not guarantee breeding performance and therefore suggest that investigators order more than one breeding pair to avoid delays in their research.
