Detailed description

This strain is congenic for an 32 cM segment of Chr 2 extending from D2Mit274through D2Mit343that includes the insulin dependent diabetes susceptibility locus Idd13(Myrick C, Leiter EH, Langley SH. 2000. Personal communication.)

Development

Genomic segments found in earlier linkage studies to include diabetogenic loci were transferred in the laboratory of E.K. Wakeland from NOD/Uf to C57BL/6 by repeated backcrossing. Sibs of each lineage were then intercrossed to generate homozygotes for each segment. Initially, D2Mit17 and D2Mit48 were identified as the most proximal and distal markers of this congenic segment. Subsequent analysis determined that the congenic segment includes D2Mit274, D2Mit395, D2Mit17, D2Mit277, D2Mit304, D2Mit48, D2Mit411, D2Mit194, and D2Mit343.
