This inversion was generated by exposing a male DBA/2J to 1000R cesium radiation. That male was then bred to a C57BL/6J female. No recombination was identified between the inversion and nonagouti (a) from DBA/2J. To maintain this inversion a carrier was bred either to C3H or C57BL/6J at alternating generations with the nonagouti marking the presence of the inversion in the heterozygous state. The embryos cryopreserved by Dr. Roderick in 1992 were generated from In(2)3Dn a/+ + heterozygous males bred to C57BL/6J females with the expectation that nonagouti pups recovered from cryopreservation will be carriers of In(2)3Dn.
