Detailed description

Mice heterozygous for the coloboma spontaneous mutation (Cm) show abnormal posture, head shaking or bobbing, and circling. Heterozygous mutant mice are extremely hyperactive, locomotor activity being three times that of normal mice.

Development

The coloboma deletion was identified in the offspring of a neutron irradiated (C3H/HeH x 101/H)F1 male at Harwell in approximately 1966. This deletion was imported into The Jackson Laboratory by 1967 and backcrossed onto C57BL/6By by Don Bailey, reaching generation N3 in 1968, N17 in 1974, and N32 by 1992. This deletion was backcrossed onto the C3H/HeSnJ inbred background in the laboratory of Muriel Davisson, reaching generation N3 in 1990, N16 in 1994, and N27 in 1998. Sperm was cryopreserved in 2006 from heterozygous males at generation N48.
