Detailed description

Ocular retardation mutations in mice are characterized by an early arrest of retinal development, aplasia of the optic nerve, cataractous degeneration of the lens, and microphthalmia. Eye phenotypes in Vsx2^or-2J homozygotes resemble the eye abnormalities reported in Vsx2^or-J/ Vsx2^or-J homozygotes. Vsx2^or-2J homozygotes of both sexes are infertile and show defective germ cell maturation. Vsx2^or-J/ Vsx2^or-2J heterozygotes are fully fertile in both sexes.

Development

A remutation at the Vsx2 (originally Chx10) locus occurred in NOR/LtDn, a genetically contaminated subline of the nonobese diabetic NOD/Lt strain.
