This congenic strains carries a Chromosome 17 interval larger than 6.2 Mb from C57L/J introgressed into AKR/J. The interval is reported to include both H2Kb and H2Db through Pgk2c.Read More +
This congenic strain carries the H2b haplotype from C57L/J on the AKR/J background. This strain has been shown to have a delay in time to death due to leukemia compared with AKR/J mice. Although no difference was found in the expression of ecotropic murine leukemia virus, this congenic strain showed reduced xenotropic murine leukemia virus compared with AKR/J. (Johnson et al., 1980.)
The H2b haplotype from C57L/J was backcrossed onto the AKR/J background with selection for H2b/H2k at each generation by the rejection of tail-skin grafts on AKR/J hosts. This congenic reached generation N15 before breeding to homozygosity for the congenic interval and lymphocytotoxicity tests proved the strain homozygous for both H2Kb and H2Db. Additional testing proved the strain homozygous for the C57L/J-derived Pgk2c allele, indicating a C57L/J interval on Chromosome 17 larger than 6.2 Mb.
