This RIII strain is derived from the original RIII/Dm (Dmochowski) strain, whereas the RIIIS/J strain (Stock No. <a href="https://www.jax.org/strain/000683"">000683</a>) was developed as follows: an RIII/AnJ female was bred with a SEC/1ReJ male and an F1 female from this cross was bred to an RIII/AnJ male. Then an F1 female from this second mating was bred to an RIII/J male and inbreeding followed. RIII/DmMobJ has been shown to differ from RIIIS/J by 5 of 28 SNPs typed (Petkov PM; Cassell MA; Sargent EE; Donnelly CJ; Robinson P; Crew V; Asquith S; Haar RV; Wiles MV 2004. This inbred strain represents the original RIII/Dm strain.
