This RIII strain is derived from the original RIII/Dm (Dmochowski) strain, whereas the RIIIS/J strain (Stock No. 000683) was developed as follows: an RIII/AnJ female was bred with a SEC/1ReJ male and an F1 female from this cross was bred to an RIII/AnJ male. Then an F1 female from this second mating was bred to an RIII/J male and inbreeding followed. RIII/DmMobJ has been shown to differ from RIIIS/J by 5 of 28 SNPs typed (Petkov PM; Cassell MA; Sargent EE; Donnelly CJ; Robinson P; Crew V; Asquith S; Haar RV; Wiles MV 2004. Development of a SNP genotyping panel for genetic monitoring of the laboratory mouse. Genomics 83 :902-11).
The RIII/Dm strain was imported into The Jackson Laboratory in the 1980’s from Dr. Joe Angel (then at Texas A&M) at an unknown generation if inbreeding. The strain was cryopreserved in 1992-93 after 20 generations of inbreeding in the colony of L.E. Mobraaten at The Jackson Laboratory.
Currently there are no related genes or alleles for this strain.
