Detailed description

Mice homozygous for the streaker spontaneous have a phenotype that is very similar to nude mice. Homozygosity prevents the development of T cell lymphomas seen in AKR mice.

Development

The nude streaker mutation arose spontaneously in 1974 on the AKR/J inbred background in the laboratory of Dr. Eva Eicher at The Jackson Laboratory. It has been maintained on the AKR/J background, using primarily the backcross-intercross breeding scheme.
