Through allograft rejection characterization, mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) testing, and cell-mediated lymphocytotoxicity (CML) assays with other H2f variants and the B10.M (H2f) parental strain, this deviant H2 was mapped to the H2-D locus.
The H2fm2 histocompatibility deviant was identified by Mobraaten and Bailey (Mouse News Letter 1973 48:17) in a subline of B10.M. Tailskin grafts showed rejection between two male hybrids of the cross B10.M x B10.RIII (71NS) and the deviant was identified in the B10.M parents. This mutant subline was maintained by sibling intercrossing and in 1994 embryos were cryopreserved from homozygous males and females at generation F63 and beyond.
