Mutations at the Kit locus affect various aspects of hematopoiesis, the proliferation and migration of primordial germ cells and melanoblasts during development. The KitW-41J remutation consists of a G to A point mutation in the kinase domain at nucleotide 2519 that results in a valine to methionine substitution at amino acid 831. These mutant mice are mildly anemic and normally fertile.
