JAX Genetic Diversity Initiative (GeDI)

The next generation of tools powering discovery in complex genetics.

The age of genomics is increasing our understanding of the origin, progression, and treatment of many human diseases and conditions, yet many of the most common diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer's, obesity, addiction, autoimmune disorders and cancer are still poorly understood due to their genetic complexity.

In contrast to inbred strains, diversity mouse strains and populations feature stable, well-characterized, segregated genetic variation that more accurately reflects the genetic structure of human populations. They offer powerful new approaches to studying genetically complex traits such as disease susceptibility, drug resistance, and behavioral conditions by enabling high resolution genetic mapping.
