My research focuses on developing and applying an innovative translational bioinformatics approach to interpret genome variation and understand the microbial mechanisms of pathogenicity. Briefly, my current work contains 4 main axes:

  1. Studying the interactions between human genetic variation and microbiome composition
  2. Designing novel informatics and sequence assembly tools essential in the analysis of the newest generation of sequencing data produced by the most cutting-edge genomic technologies
  3. Developing large integrative sequence databases particularly focused on the Human Microbiome Project that now includes the enormously complex human microbiome, termed the human “second genome”  that will prove hugely important for scientists worldwide to analyze and interpret their genomics data
  4. Developing pipeline for pathogen identification from next-generation sequencing data
