JAX® Mice are shipped via our dedicated ground transportation network to over 99% of the U.S. and most of Canada.

Shipping information

We recommend and can arrange ground transportation in dedicated, climate-controlled vehicles to most locations in the U.S. and Canada. We can arrange air transport to Mexico. If ground transportation is not available to your location, we can arrange for air shipment. We ship all mice in protective, filtered containers. Shipping and container charges

Shipping charges are based on the number of shipping containers. Shipping charges are prepaid and itemized on invoices. Order confirmations indicate an estimated number of shipping containers to be used to ship orders. The actual number of shipping containers used for shipment may exceed the original estimates. For example more boxes are required if mice for an order originate from different rooms or if they are required to be housed at lower density for welfare reasons.

Dedicated ground transportation throughout U.S. and Canada

JAX® Mice are shipped via our dedicated ground transportation network to over 99% of the U.S. and most of Canada. Specially constructed trucks engineered with environmental control systems that facilitate sanitation and air flow ensure a low-stress, clean, comfortable and safe ride. The environmental control systems alert drivers and JAX personnel to deviations, incorporate multiple backup features, and carry maintenance support guarantees for all points en route. Highly skilled drivers understand the needs of JAX® Mice and of our customers.

During shipment, JAX® Mice are provided with an environment that is familiar to them, thus alleviating stress. Mice are packed within the isolators and barrier facilities in which they are raised. They are shipped in our state-of-the-art autoclaved and sterilized shipping containers. Each container is supplied with fresh bedding, gelatinized water packets, and the same feed that the mice are fed during production. Even after journeys of up to 10 days, mice shipped by this method arrive clean and in excellent health.

Mice shipped via our ground transportation service arrive at their destinations up to six times less likely to develop stress-related health problems than those shipped via the less controlled conditions of most economical overnight air delivery services. If we do not currently deliver to your facility, we can modify our routes for large or recurring orders. Alternately, we can arrange closely controlled air shipments with environmental conditions similar to those in our ground transportation service.

Holiday-related delivery schedule changes

In most locations, deliveries during the weeks of Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day will be delivered 1 day later than usual.  Please check with Customer Service for details and exceptions.

The Jackson Laboratory is closed and does not ship on the following holidays in the United States:

  • Friday, July 3 (Independence Day)
  • Monday, September 7 (Labor Day)
  • Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving Day)
  • Friday, December 25 (Christmas) 
  • Thursday, January 1 (New Year)

International orders

To avoid travel delays over these holidays, orders being sent to international locations will not ship on the following days:
