About

Offered annually for over 60 years, the ‘Short Course’ is a 2-week program consisting of an immersive set of lectures, workshops, tutorials and demonstrations to understand the breadth of modern human genetics. The faculty includes leaders in contemporary genetics and genomics from Johns Hopkins, The Jackson Laboratory and other institutions around the world. The course covers basic science, clinical and translational aspects of human genetics and genomics, and runs the gamut from gene and variant discovery in Mendelian and complex disease, genome biology, the molecular basis of genetic disease, the use of animal models of human disease to understand pathophysiology, as well as genetic disease treatment and therapy. Workshops and lectures also cover bioinformatics, population genetics, genome manipulation, mutagenesis and phenotyping.

This live, virtual, option for the course will include daily lectures, panel discussions, and featured presentations from 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM EDT. Live sessions will be recorded and posted on a centralized canvas course for participants within 72 hours of airing.

Virtual Short Course

Registration includes full virtual access to lectures, Q&A sessions, and course materials during the event and for a period of time after the event concludes. Special pricing is available for virtual participation, including scholarships, and discounts for groups.

Fee Structure:

Standard Registration - $400
Trainee Registration - $250
Scholarship Fee - $25

Scholarships available for this course are made possible by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, NIH Grants, foundation awards and gifts or donations to The Jackson Laboratory. The Jackson Laboratory strongly encourages students, post-doctoral fellows, or junior faculty from populations under-represented in the biomedical sciences to register, with a preference for those currently enrolled in or working at a U.S. institution. Underrepresented populations are defined by the National Institutes of Health, see NIH NOT-OD-20-031 for definitions.

During registration please include a brief statement to describe your financial need for reduced registration fees, including any employer or institutional support that may be available to you. If adequate criteria is met, the scholarship will be automatically approved and the amount due will be reduced to $25.
