The Jackson Laboratory and University of Connecticut Health Center are pleased to offer a mouse surgical workshop in Farmington, Connecticut. This four-day intensive hands-on workshop is for those wishing to obtain practical training in surgical techniques for the laboratory mouse. In addition to surgical procedures, topics covered include mouse biomethods, anatomy, aseptic technique, suturing and microscope use.
Surgical techniques covered in this workshop include: castration, vasectomy, ovariectomy, ovarian transplantation, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, thymectomy, nephrectomy and jugular vein catheterization. This workshop can be used for continuing education units for ASR and AALAS re-certification but does not qualify for state licensure.
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) Courses and Conferences program is committed to:

Program organizers and leadership can be approached informally about any apparent or actual breaches or violations. Breaches or violations should be reported to the specific program leader or to JAX Courses and Conferences organizers in person or by email:
Reports can be submitted by those who experience harassment or discrimination as well as by those who witness violations of the behavior laid out in this Code. The TDCC will act as needed to resolve the matter, up to and including immediate expulsion of the offending participant(s) from the meeting and exclusion from future events offered by JAX. Individuals at any NIH-supported conference who have questions, concerns or complaints related to harassment or discrimination can also file a report with the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR) or notify NIH. Seeking assistance from a program leader or organizer in no way prohibits filing complaints with HHS OCR.
The registration fee includes full access to instruction, handouts, equipment, and some meals during the event. Fees do not cover lodging or transportation.
JAX Genomic Education Visitor Protocol
In accordance with The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) Policies, all participants in JAX courses and workshops events must adhere to the following safety protocol:
* JAX will honor documented approvals of vaccination exemption by participants’ home institutions for certain medical conditions or a sincerely held religious belief. A scanned copy of COVID-19 vaccination record is acceptable in place of the original.

All sessions will be held at the UConn Health Campus in Farmington, Connecticut. Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from the event venue. The nearest airport is Bradley International Airport (BDL) which is approximately 45 minutes away. Car rental, public transportation, ride-share (Uber/Lyft), and taxi services are available from Bradley International Airport as well in the Farmington/West Hartford area.
