Workshop on Advanced Surgical Techniques in the Laboratory Mouse

About

This four-day intensive hands-on workshop is for those wishing to obtain advanced training in surgical techniques for the laboratory mouse.

In addition to biomethods and rodent survival surgery guidelines, a wide range of surgical procedures are taught including: 

• Xenografts (intra-femoral, intra-splenic, kidney, lung, mammary, prostate and subcutaneous xenograft via trocar)
• Mammary Fat Pad Clearing
• Carotid Artery Catheterization
• Vascular Access Button Jugular Vein Catheterization
• Unilateral Ureteral Ligation
• 5/6 Nephrectomy
• Intubation and Ventilation

Additional procedures may be covered upon request and as time and ACUC approval permits.

Participants should have basic surgery knowledge and the ability to work under a dissecting microscope.

This workshop can be used for continuing education units for AALAS re-certification.
