This unique hands‐on workshop teaches participants to use Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) to efficiently manage mouse strains using both CARD and JAX techniques. Topics covered include cryobiology and strain archival, colony expansion, strain rescue, rederivation, genetic stability and how to overcome breeding problems using ARTs. Hands‐on techniques covered include embryo handling, embryo and sperm cryopreservation and recovery, surgical and non‐surgical embryo transfer, In‐vitro fertilization, flushing embryos, vasectomy, superovulation and inducing pseudopregnancy. Aseptic surgical techniques, biomethods and project planning will also be covered. Participants will be taught by leading experts in the field and will obtain the information they need to implement ARTs when they return to their institution.

Completion of this workshop can be used for continuing educational units for AALAS recertification. Participants will also receive a signed certificate of completion from The Jackson Laboratory.
The registration fee includes shared lodging (minimum double occupancy) at Highseas Conference Center, a spacious mansion built in 1912, overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and adjacent to beautiful Acadia National Park. Participants may arrive at Highseas on Sunday, October 14th and depart on Saturday, October 20th. The workshop will run October 15-19, 2018. The registration fee also includes all meals beginning with dinner on Sunday, October 14th through breakfast on Saturday, October 20th.
