This hands‐on workshop teaches participants to use Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) to efficiently manage mouse strains. Participants will be taught by leading experts in the field and will obtain the information they need to implement ARTs when they return to their institution.

This hands‐on workshop teaches participants to use Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) to efficiently manage mouse strains.Topics covered include cryobiology and strain archival, colony expansion, strain rescure, rederivation, genetic stability and how to overcome breeding problems using ARTs.Hands‐on techniques covered include embryo handling, embryo and sperm cryopreservation and recovery, surgical and non‐surgical embryo transfer, In‐vitro fertilization, flushing embryos, vasectomy, superovulation, ovarian transplantation and inducing pseudopregnancy. Aseptic surgical techniques, biomethods and project planning will also be covered. Participants will be taught by leading experts in the field and will obtain the information they need to implement ARTs when they return to their institution.

Completion of this workshop can be used for continuing educational units for AALAS recertification.

Scholarship Applicaton

Scholarship funds are available for the majority of Courses and Workshops delivered by The Jackson Laboratory. Scholarships are supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, NIH grants, foundation awards and gifts or donations to The Jackson Laboratory. Not all courses or workshops are funded by NIH awards.

The Jackson Laboratory strongly encourages individuals who are from underrepresented populations to apply. Underrepresented populations are defined by the National Institutes of Health. (See also NIH NOT-OD-15-053 for definitions regarding under-represented groups). For scholarship awards, first preference will be given to students, post-doctoral fellows, or junior faculty from populations under-represented in the biomedical sciences currently enrolled in, or working at, a U.S. institution.

Scholarship funds will offset a portion of the tuition and fees required to attend the educational program; in rare cases, scholarships will be awarded to cover the full registration fee. Funds will not be sent to scholarship awardees; rather funds are credited to applicants who register to take a course.

To apply for a scholarship please provide at the time of application:

A Curriculum Vitae or Resume.
A written statement of financial need (100-250 words).
A written statement describing how the course/workshop will foster your academic or career objectives (100-250 words).

Lodging
Travel

Shared lodging accommodations will be at Highseas Conference Center, a spacious mansion built in 1912, overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and adjacent to beautiful Acadia National Park. The registration fee includes lodging (minimum double occupancy). Transportation will be provided from the conference center to the course venue for the duration of the course. Highseas cannot accommodate families. Please refer to the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce for off-campus lodging alternatives.

Bar Harbor is approximately 6 hours by car from the greater Boston area.
