The annual Cancer Short Course remains the signature cancer training program at JAX and is strategically aligned with the ongoing Workshop on Techniques in Modeling Human Cancer in Mice. The program purposefully provides a broad survey of the cancer research and experimental modeling from systems and computational genetics, to the tumor microenvironment and tumor progression, to inflammation and immunotherapy. The immersive, residential approach of the Cancer Short Course provides rich and extensive content and skills for up to 50 trainees.

Unlike a semester-long graduate course or an academic seminar series spread across a full year or more, the course delivers a large amount of material into an intensive training period. The program is 70% seminar-based and 30% workshop-based, including computational workshops. The program is designed around a daily schedule that balances lectures, hands-on workshops, informal meetings with faculty, and evening seminar and poster sessions. Over eight days, participants interact directly with faculty, JAX Cancer Center scientists, patient advocates and medical oncologists to gain broad exposure and knowledge as it relates to human cancer.
It is held in a retreat-like setting and is limited to 50 participants to ensure a supportive, interactive learning atmosphere.
Registration Fee: The $1200 fee includes live webcast of the majority of lecture sessions, and online access to recorded lectures for six months.
Lodging accommodations will be at Highseas Conference Center, a spacious mansion built in 1912, overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and adjacent to beautiful Acadia National Park. The registration fee includes lodging (minimum double occupancy). Transportation will be provided from the conference center to the course venue for the duration of the course. Highseas cannot accommodate families. Please refer to the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce for off-campus lodging alternatives.
