Neurogenetic Tools: Using Mouse Models to Study Human Neurodegenerative Disease

This five day course is focused on the use of the mouse in neuroscience studies, particularly neurodegenerative disease.  It will survey current methods in the field with a strong emphasis on neurogenetic tools.  Last year's faculty included leaders in the field such as Loren Looger, HHMI Janelia Research Campus, Adam Cohen, Harvard University, Joanna Jankowsky, Baylor College of Medicine, and scientists from The Allen Institute.  Topics will include but are not limited to:

• peripheral and central nervous system disease models
• optogenetics
• tissue clearing methods
• CRE/LOX systems
• single cell genomics
• development of disease models using CRISPR/Cas9
• optopatch system
• bioinformatic databases and data analysis tools
• using viral vectors for gene delivery and tracing
• behavioral analysis
• forward and systems genetics approaches to complex trait analysis
