This JAX course will focus on the use of the innovative tools and methods, specifically in the laboratory mouse, for answering questions of neuron and circuit function and disease mechanisms during neurodegeneration. This course will employ both didactic and hands-on instruction in both laboratory techniques and bioinformatics.
NEW FOR 2017: Webcasting. Those unable to join our Courses and Conferences now have the ability to attend via webcast.

This five day workshop is focused on the use of the mouse in neuroscience studies, particularly neurodegenerative disease. It will survey current methods in the field with a strong emphasis on neurogenetic tools. Last year's faculty included leaders in the field such as Loren Looger, HHMI Janelia Research Campus, Samuel Wang, Princeton University, Nicolas Renier, Rockefeller University, and scientists from The Allen Institute. Workshops topics will include but are not limited to:

Participants and some faculty reside together at Highseas Conference Center, a Georgian style mansion built in 1912. Highseas is perched on the cliffs overlooking the entrance to Frenchman Bay and surrounded by beautiful Acadia National Park. This is casual, dormitory-style housing, consisting of shared bedrooms and bathrooms. Wireless internet access is provided throughout the building. Laundry facilities are available on site.
Please refer to the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce for lodging alternatives available for purchase. A few options are Blackwoods Campground, Quimby House Inn & Spa, Atlantic Oceanside Hotel or Bar Harbor Grand Hotel.
Bar Harbor is served by two airports:
Bar Harbor is approximately 6 hours by car from the greater Boston area.
Rental cars are available from Hertz at BHB and BGR
There is a free bus system available that runs throughout Bar Harbor - Island Explorer. The Jackson Laboratory is located between The Village Green and Sieur de Monts on the Sand Beach (Bus 3) Route.
