MD-PhD CandidateJohns Hopkins University, Department of Biomedical Engineering

Lyla Atta is an MD-PhD candidate, currently pursuing her PhD with Jean Fan in the JEFworks lab in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Broadly, she is interested in creating computational and mathematical tools to better understand complexity in health and disease. In the JEFworks lab, Atta is working to develop methods to infer cell state dynamics from snapshot spatial transcriptomics measurements.  Atta graduated with a bachelors in biological engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017. At MIT, Atta worked with Douglas Lauffenburger where she investigated non-genetic mechanisms of targeted drug resistance in breast cancer using bulk RNA sequencing data combined with protein measurements. Outside the lab, Lyla is interested in data science education and likes to read, explore Baltimore, go to art and history museums, and take photographs.
