Christina Vallianatos, Ph.D., is a Genomics Educator at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, CT.  During her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan, she implemented several STEM outreach and education programs for a wide range of learners. Most notably, she founded the Michigan DNA Day statewide outreach program that connects scientist with classrooms across the state of Michigan. Her role as a genetics education specialist at JAX focuses on the design, development, and implementation of courses in genomics, genetics, and computational techniques. She joined The Jackson Laboratory in 2019, bringing her passion for science outreach and engagement and a commitment to increasing diversity and inclusivity in the sciences.

Our mission at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM) is to discover precise genomic solutions for disease and to educate future and current scientists. The Open House event is a unique opportunity for parents, educators, and students from grades 9-12 to learn about the exciting science happening right in their own backyard here at JAX. Our leading scientists will give engaging presentations about the newest breakthroughs in genomics research and personalized medicine. Students will also have the opportunity to engage with professionals and learn how to prepare for careers in biosciences.
