Medhat Mahmoud, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral AssociateBaylor College of Medicine
Dr. Medhat Mahmoud completed his Ph.D. in 2018 in Dr. Wojciech Karlowski (head of the Department of Computational Biology) group in the Department of Computational Biology at Adam Mickiewicz University and Dr. Tomasz Twardowski (head of the Department of Protein Biosynthesis) in the department of Protein Biosynthesis, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences, in Poland. After his Ph.D., Dr. Mahmoud transitioned to the lab of Dr. Fritz Sedlazeck at the Human Genome Sequencing Center, Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Mahmoud's research focuses on developing algorithms and computational methods to detect and analyze genomic variations at scale, focusing on Structural Variations (SVs), Single Nucleotide Variations (SNVs), and methylations. Dr. Mahmoud has been involved in large-scale short- and long-read projects (e.g., CCDG and All of Us) to identify SVs and SNVs and study their impact on phenotypes and their association with diseases.
