Meet the Hirshhorns
Jackson Laboratory Trustee Emerita Ann Hirshhorn, M.D. (right) has been an active supporter of the Laboratory since participating in the Summer Student Program in 1953 and 1954, organizing alumni reunions and working to build the institution's educational programs. Her daughter Abigail followed in her footsteps as a summer student in 1982, and served six years on the Laboratory's former Corporation body. Today a marketing consultant, Abigail Hirshhorn has assisted the Laboratory in new public outreach initiatives.
“We share many happy memories, as would be expected in a mother-daughter relationship. One special joy has been watching the Laboratory maintain its dedication to excellence as it has grown and developed from a budget in the tens of thousands to one in the hundreds of millions; from a small local staff to one of over 1,300 in Bar Harbor and California; from a single building with crimson wooden summer out-buildings to the current sprawling campus. And we treasure the many friendships we’ve formed with scientific staff, administration, board members and alumni of the education programs.”
