Pink Tulip Tea raises awareness for women's cancer research
| Date: July 31, 2009 |
Cancer survivors and their friends and family joined cancer scientists and other members of the Hancock County community for tea and dessert at The Jackson Laboratory’s Second Annual Sigrid Berwind Memorial Pink Tulip Tea on July 30. The event was a celebration of the statewide pink tulip initiative, raising awareness and funds for women's cancer research in Maine.
This year’s tea included a program on breast cancer research with keynote speaker Anne Peaston, Ph.D. (in the photo), a research scientist at The Jackson Laboratory. The event was named in honor of Sigrid Berwind (1942-2008), a Jackson Laboratory supporter and Mount Desert Island summer resident who battled cancer for 17 years.
Sponsors of the 2009 Pnk Tulip Tea were the Casper W. Weinberger Foundation, The Bluenose Inn, Machias Savings Bank and Bar Harbor Bank & Trust.
The Jackson Laboratory is a nonprofit biomedical research institution based in Bar Harbor, Maine. Its mission is to discover the genetic basis for preventing, treating and curing human diseases, and to enable research and education for the global biomedical community.
