Discover Magazine: Gene networks and human disease
| Date: May 22, 2007 |
A group of scientists at The Jackson Laboratory is taking a revolutionary approach to understanding complex human diseases. These researchers are taking a big-picture view of the mouse genome (the Rosetta stone of the human genome) and discovering "gene networks" -- hundreds of genes interacting in such a way as to make an individual susceptible or resistant to heart disease, cancers, diabetes, osteoporosis and other conditions. In Discover magazine, "Mendel's Mouse," an article by renowned science writer Carl Zimmer, explores the Laboratory's complex traits program. This article is also available on Discover magazine's web site.
