Jackson Lab commuter bus service expands to Ellsworth
| Date: September 27, 2007 |
Bar Harbor, Maine -- Jackson Laboratory employees who live in or near Ellsworth can now commute to work by bus. The Laboratory's partnership with Downeast Transportation, Inc., which currently provides commuter bus service from Franklin, Cherryfield and Bangor, will grow to include four daily runsæto and from the Maine Coast Mall to Bar Harbor andæthe Laboratory starting on October 15.
Dr. Chuck Hewett, Jackson Laboratory chief operating officer, says, "This new service will help to provide convenient, economical and reliable transportation to many more of our employees. It will also make a real dent in the number of cars on the road between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor during the morning and afternoon rush." Hewett noted that the Lab's commitment to reducing traffic congestion includes encouraging employees to carpool through the Maine DOT's GoMaine program.
According to Paul Murphy of Downeast Transportation, all commuter bus service to the Laboratory is by subscription, but will also be available to the public. "Thanks to funding from the MDOT, we're able to reduce current fares for all routes." Weekly round-trip service from Franklin or Ellsworth to Bar Harbor or the Lab will be $14.50, and from Bangor or Cherryfield, $17.50. Non-Lab employees interested in subscribing should contact Murphy at paul@exploreacadia.com.
