$50,000 Gift from the Davis Family Foundation to Construct New Research Space at The Jackson Laboratory

Bar Harbor, Maine - The Davis Family Foundation has made a $50,000 contribution to The Jackson Laboratory's research expansion. The gift will help to fund a 53,200-square-foot research wing, including eight new laboratories, thus increasing laboratory space at the Bar Harbor institution by 34 percent. The Jackson Laboratory projects that the research expansion will add more than 100 new scientific, technical and administrative support jobs.
Trustees and friends of the Laboratory have so far donated $48 million to The Jackson Laboratory's 5-year, $85 million capital campaign for expansion, announced to the public in August of 2003. Joining the Davis Family Foundation in support of this expansion are several Maine organizations and foundations, including the Libra Foundation; Fleet National Bank, Trustee of the Lloyd G. Balfour Foundation; Peoples Heritage Bank and Morse, Payson and Noyes Insurance through the Banknorth Charitable Foundation; Machias Savings Bank; First National Bank of Bar Harbor; H.E. Sargent; and Bangor Hydro Electric Co.
Jackson Laboratory Director Rick Woychik, Ph.D., noted, "Since 1987, the Davis Family Foundation has generously supported vital initiatives at The Jackson Laboratory. This most recent gift attests to their support of our research into the root causes of disease. We are most grateful for the partnership of the Davis Family Foundation."
The Davis Family Foundation is a public charitable foundation founded in 1986 by Mr. and Mrs. H. Halsey Davis of Falmouth, to support areas of particular interest to them, including education, medical organizations and cultural and arts organizations. Each year, the Foundation's trustees award more than $2 million in grants to dozens of organizations in Maine and New England.
