$50,000 Gift from H.E. Sargent to Construct New Research Space at The Jackson Laboratory
| Date: December 3, 2003 |
Bar Harbor, Maine--The Maine construction contracting company H.E. Sargent, Inc., has made a $50,000 contribution to The Jackson Laboratory's research expansion.
In announcing the donation, John Simpson, President of H.E. Sargent, said, "With this gift, we recognize the positive impact that The Jackson Laboratory has. We are confident that our gift will strengthen Maine's economy and enhance quality genetic research worldwide, making medicine more efficient and effective." H.E. Sargent, Inc., founded in 1926 and based in Stillwater, provides general contractor services, with special expertise in commercial building, environmental, industrial, and infrastructure construction.
On August 16, The Jackson Laboratory began the public phase of its 5-year, $85 million capital campaign, of which $48 million--including the H.E. Sargent gift--is already pledged or in hand. Of the funds raised, $60 million will support construction of new buildings, and the remaining $25 million will help increase endowment funding for long-term initiatives and upgrade methods for providing genetic resources and data to the worldwide scientific community.
Jackson Laboratory Director Rick Woychik, Ph.D., noted, "H.E. Sargent has been a consistently generous partner of The Jackson Laboratory for many years now. Their recent, generous capital gift shows their appreciation for the high quality research conducted here in Bar Harbor, and their commitment to supporting a healthy economy in Maine. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to partner with strong Maine businesses like H.E. Sargent."
