On Sunday, October 5, The Jackson Laboratory will be hosting a Family Academic Conference for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) entitled “Explorations in Biotechnology and Bioengineering”. This event will bring together 38 talented eight and ninth graders and 43 adult family members from around the country for a challenging and rewarding biotechnology and bioengineering workshop.

Students have been selected to take part through a talent search that identifies those with exceptional mathematical or verbal abilities – these students are in the top three percentile of regular achievement tests. Recognizing their academic successes, this program allows such students to come together in an intellectual setting and openly share their talents while gaining an understanding of a specific area of research.

Speakers and workshop leaders for the program will include Jackson Laboratory scientists, Laboratory Animal Health and Mouse Genome Informatics representatives, as well as representatives from the College of the Atlantic and the University of Maine.
