Jackson Laboratory Accepts Resignation of Senior Vice President Warren C. Cook
| Date: September 29, 2003 |
Bar Harbor, Maine - The Director of The Jackson Laboratory, Rick Woychik, Ph.D., has accepted the resignation of Warren C. Cook.
Mr. Cook, who formerly headed the Laboratory's Jackson Research Systems operations, more recently served as Senior Vice President for Government Relations and Special Projects. He has worked at the Laboratory since 1999.
In offering his resignation, Mr. Cook accepted full responsibility for a discrepancy on his résumé concerning his military record. The discrepancy was reported on Saturday in the Bangor Daily News. "With regret, and after careful consideration, I accepted Warren's resignation on Saturday," Dr. Woychik said. "Warren's dedication to the Laboratory and his contributions to JMS will not be forgotten. I will be the first to acknowledge his accomplishments as a driving force in state and local causes and programs, his standing as a business leader, and most importantly, as a father, husband and, to so many, a friend."
Dr. Woychik said he first learned of the situation on Thursday after The Jackson Laboratory was contacted by the news media. Mr. Cook submitted two separate letters offering to resign to Dr. Woychik on Friday, one by e-mail early Friday morning and the other as a handwritten note later in the day. Dr. Woychik made his decision to accept the offer of resignation during a meeting with Mr. Cook on Saturday.
"Warren is to be commended for immediately coming forward and taking total responsibility for this matter," Dr. Woychik said. "He indicated in his letter offering his resignation that, unfortunately,
his action could affect his ability to function at the level that would be expected of a member of the senior management team at The Jackson Laboratory."
