Jackson Laboratory Scientist Receives Postdoctoral Fellowship
| Date: May 2002 |
Bar Harbor, Maine - Malcolm A. Lyons, Ph.D., a postdoctoral associate at The Jackson Laboratory, has won one of three Postdoctoral Fellowships in Physiological Genomics from The American Physiological Society (APS).
Dr. Lyons' research focus is identifying the gene responsible for susceptibility to gallstones. The two-year award will provide funds totaling $73,000 including stipend and a mini research grant for each year. The fellowship was established to provide training that enables outstanding young scientists to combine the tools of cellular and molecular biology in the setting of the whole animal.
Dr. Lyons is one of 50 recent recipients of the doctoral degree currently participating in The Jackson Laboratory's postdoctoral research training program. Participants train in the laboratory of a Jackson Laboratory staff scientist as preparation for responsible positions in academic and industry programs in mammalian genetics and genomics. Dr. Lyons conducts his research in the laboratory of Jackson Laboratory Senior Staff Scientist Beverly Paigen, Ph.D.
The other APS fellowship recipients are Ana Diez-Sampedro, Ph.D., of the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, and Brian R. Wamhoff, Ph.D., of the University of Virginia.
