Running JCMS on Macintosh computers
The JCMS application interface is a native Windows/PC application; however, it can be run on Macintosh computers (many of our users have Macintosh computers). There are two recommended ways to run JCMS on a Macintosh as discussed below:
1) Modern Macintosh computers run on Intel Microprocessors. These computers can run a virtual windows session by using software called VMware (www.vmware.com) or Parallels (www.parallels.com). Using VMware or Parallels, you can set up a virtual windows instance and install JCMS in that window. This method works great for single users’ instances, and for small work group shared instances. We have experience with both VMware and Parallels; both work very well and performance is excellent.
2) Large and small workgroups will benefit from using a Citrix server solution. Many institutions already support Citrix, and it is thus relatively easy to leverage existing expertise and infrastructure. With Citrix, JCMS can be accessed from a web browser to launch the application on Macintosh, PC, or Linux computers. We use Citrix at The Jackson Laboratory to host JCMS to our research investigators.
