General Information

The Jackson Laboratory Mouse DNA Resource provides genomic DNAs from most of the Laboratory’s diverse genetic stocks. High molecular weight DNA is prepared by phenol-chloroform extracting nuclei from the tissues of individual mice. The DNA is suitable for Southern blotting and amplification by PCR. Most extractions are from spleen, or brain and spleen of pedigreed male mice; however, occasionally DNA is extracted from other tissues and some DNA is preserved from female mice. The concentration and purity of DNA samples are determined spectrophotometrically and further checked by restriction enzyme digestion and electrophoresis. DNA concentrations generally range from 0.5 to 1.5 mg/ml. (The concentrations of individual samples are supplied with shipment.) The DNAs are stored in TE buffer (10 mM TRIS pH 7.5, 1 mM EDTA) at -20°C.

DNA Prices - As of June 1, 2012, the price of mouse genomic DNA for external customers is as follows:

The following stock types are $83.50 per 20 micrograms:

  • Wild Derived
  • Recombinant Inbred

The following stock types are $111.30 per 20 micrograms:

  • Mutants
  • Congenics
  • Transgenic
  • Targeted Mutations
  • Chromosomal Aberrations
  • Chemically Induced
  • Consomic

Stock type can be found in the pull down menu in the Searchable DNA Database. Database searches produce price information for each specific strain inquiry.

Ordering Information

A secure online order form is available for your ordering convenience. You can also fax this form with a valid credit card number, purchase order number or a purchase order from your organization to the fax number at the bottom of this page.

You may place your order via email or fax (207-288-6075) at any time. To facilitate filling your order, please make sure all of the pertinent information is included in your email or fax. All orders should have the following information:

1. Shipping address
2. Billing address
3. PO# or credit card information (cardholder name, card number and expiration date)
4. The stock# or strain name of the DNA you want
5. The genotype you would like if you are ordering mutant DNA
6. The amount of each DNA you want
7. Your preferred shipping - FedEx 2 day or FedEx Priority (all international shipments will be sent via FedEx Priority).

Searchable DNA Database - This database contains a list of the stocks whose DNA is currently available from the Mouse DNA Resource. DNA is available from both homozygous and heterozygous animals from many mutant strains. However, there are a few exceptions. If you are interested in a specific genotype in a segregating stock, please inquire as to availability. The availability of some DNAs is limited. All requests for these DNAs will be given due consideration, but we cannot assure availability.
