Genetic resources - FY2008
- 2.5 million JAX® Mice distributed

JAX® Mice have been shipped to approximately 16,000 investigators in at least 60 countries.

More than 4,000 varieties are available as breeding mice, frozen embryos, or DNA samples.

Induced Mutant Resource: More than 1,400 targeted and 700 transgenic mouse lines are available, many of which are models for cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, ALS, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, spinal muscular atrophy, Huntington's disease and various autoimmune diseases. More than 400 new lines are imported annually.

The Laboratory Animal Health Services program oversees the health, welfare, and husbandry of Jackson Laboratory mice and provides expertise in the evaluation of clinical diseases.
Cancer Center designation
The Jackson Laboratory, founded in 1929 as a cancer research facility, has been designated as a Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute since 1983 to conduct basic research.
